As it became known today, an interagency working group recommended the government commission on protective measures in foreign trade of the Russian Federation to approve the draft decision on the introduction on a continuing basis a zero rate of export duty on import of cement in Russia and 7.5% on the interest rate on the import of products from cement. Decision to introduce zero rates of import duty on cement was taken by the Government of the Russian Federation on December 21 and went into effect four days later. Previously, the rate was 5%. In the same resolution it was decided to reduce from 15% to 7.5% import duty on building products. Validity of duty expires in September. The need for such action was actually motivated by two major national projects - "Affordable Housing" and Olmpiada 2014. And if domestic producers are somehow able to saturate the market a few years ago, but recently cement market in Russia has become scarce. Consequence of the deficit - the rise in prices for building materials, which spurred more expensive construction.
